A few years ago, just as the world was slipping into a pandemic that would change everything, I was hiking in Patagonia with my girlfriend, chatting about all sorts of things that came past our minds, and being gloriously disconnected from the world.

One of the great things about disconnection is the way other parts of the brain open up. On this trip, as I was descending from the incredible Torres Del Paine, I had an idea to combine some of my loves into something exciting and new.

It would be a graphic novel based on the music of Radiohead. How cool would that be?! It would be set in a dystopian city, because if there’s one thing Radiohead sound like, it’s the future, where robots are everywhere and creativity is shunned but resistance abounds.

I imagined all these epic characters prowling around this city - Planet Telex - with names like Street Spirit, Kid A, Lotus Flower, Reckoner, and the King of Limbs.

Then years passed. I can draw but I’m not an artist. How the hell would i make a graphic novel?! It just seemed too hard.

Then, on other trip, this time in Europe, the idea returned. You know what — I gotta do this! The creative energy was surging again.

But things are different now. We have generative AI. To help with my writing process, I turned to AI image generation with Craiyon, and wow! It was amazing to be able to type out my ideas and see them come to some sort of life.

This is 2023 — maybe by the time i finish this novel, maybe I will be able to enter the whole story and see a complete Pixar style film unfold.

This technology really is incredible.
